HYDERABAD, May 29: A large number of workers under the banner of the National Labour Federation staged a demonstration outside the Hyderabad Press Club on Wednesday demanding an increase in their salaries and other facilities in the ensuing budget.

The demonstration was led by the provincial president, NLF, Rana Mehmood Ali Khan, and its zonal general secretary, Shakeel Ahmed Shaikh.

They carried placards and banners demanding Rs500 per month as dearness allowance, raise in the salaries of grade-1 to grade-15 employees, reduction in the prices of utilities, and an end to unemployment.

The workers also demanded the government to get rid of the IMF and the World Bank.

SINDH UNIVERSITY: A meeting of the Advanced Studies and Research Board of Sindh University approved the names of the guides and supervisors for the candidates of M.Phil and Ph.D from various departments.

The meeting was held here on Wednesday under the chairmanship of the vice chancellor, Mazharul Haq Siddiqui.

The meeting also extended the time period for the compilation of research work of M.Phil and Ph.D at the requests of the researchers and approved award of Ph.D degrees to Ume Kulsoom (Sindhi), Naheed Baloch (Zoology) and M.Phil degrees to Amber Rehana Solangi (Analytical Chemistry) Dr Mohammad Ali Memon (Bio-chemistry) and Siraj Mohammad Pandhiani in Mathematics.

The meeting was attended by the deans of various faculties, Registrar, Professor Ferozuddin Kazi, controller of examinations and the senior professors of different departments.
