KARACHI, May 29: The Pakistan Peoples party Sindh and the MQM coordination committee have expressed concern over the unannounced loadshedding and water scarcity in different parts of Karachi.
The committee, in a statement, said that despite the tall claims of the KESC long power breakdowns continued. “Along with the power breakdowns the citizens have been facing water scarcity and have to fetch water from far-off places to meet their day to day requirements’” the committee said and pointed out that the water crisis had taken a serious turn in Karachi due to the shortfall of 5 mgd water supply to Karachi.
The committee demanded of the President to take notice of the water and power crises in Karachi and order priority measures to solve problems of the citizens.
PPP Sindh president, Nisar Ahmad Khuhro, demanded severe action against non-civil administration of the KESC for the worst power crisis. Mr Khuhro, in a statement, said that in view of the threats to the borders the army administration of the KESC should be sent back to discharge their fundamental duty .
He said that the air defence batch sent to the KESC for recovery of bills and checking of meters should immediately be sent back to discharge their duty of national defence in the present situation.
The PPP leader said a committee headed by the chief justice of the Sindh High Court should inquire into the causes of the KESC’s bad performance despite the forced recovery of billions of rupees in the form of additional bills.
