By Our Correspondent

VEHARI, May 28: Two wanted men were killed in an encounter with police in Karampur, some 25km away from here, on Monday night.

Rashid and Jafar snatched a motorcycle from one Noor Muhammad in Mauza Khanpur and fled towards Mauza Shergarh. Noor Muhammad informed the Karampur police.

A police party chased the accused and intercepted them near Mauza Noori Baloch. On seeing the police, the bandits opened fire which was retaliated. In the crossfire, both the dacoits were killed.

The police claimed that both the dacoits were wanted in dozens of dacoity, kidnapping and murder cases. They had also looted Rs900,000 in cash from MCB’s Mailsi branch. They had escaped from the Tibba Sultanpur police station some six months ago.

The police also claimed that both the dead men belonged to the Riaz Rath gang which had been active in Vehari, Mailsi, Kehror Pucca and Dunyapur for the last two years.
