Riba case hearing next week
By Our Staff Reporter
ISLAMABAD, May 27: A five-member Shariat Appellate Bench of the Supreme Court would take up the Riba case next Monday, as the government is seeking complete reversal of the judgment delivered by the Federal Shariat Court in 1992.
The government has decided to ask the Supreme Court to reverse its judgment, as it was wrongly declared that all forms of existing banking activity was un-Islamic.
The government has engaged prominent scholar Syed Riazul Hasan Gillani and Raza Kazim advocate to argue the case. Raja Akram would represent the UBL which has filed the review petition. The two newly-appointed ad hoc members of Shariat Appellate Bench would sit on the bench. The bench is likely to be headed by Chief Justice Shaikh Riaz Ahmad. The appointment of two ulema judges was notified on Friday last.
