QUETTA, May 27: Security forces foiled an attack on Uch Gas Field Airport late on Sunday injuring two of the armed men and arresting six culprits, a senior officer of the Sui administration said on Monday.

The gang opened fire at the airport prompting the personnel of the Frontier Corps to respond with firearms. The encounter continued for half-an-hour in which two armed men, Dhani Bukhsh and Mazhar Khan, were injured. They were admitted to a local hospital.

The FC men also picked up six persons from the area and recovered four sub-machineguns from their possession. No damage to the airport or any installation was caused, official sources said.

In another attack, an unidentified band of armed men fired four rockets at Pir Koh Gas Field on Sunday night sparking off a fire in the main pipeline and disrupting gas supply.

The OGDC engineers cut off the damaged pipeline from the well and started repair work for the restoration of gas supply.

A case has been registered against the unknown attackers.
