Resolution of Kashmir issue urged

By Our Correspondent

SWABI, May 27: Unless the issue of Kashmir is resolved, there will be no peace in the volatile South Asian region. With a peaceful settlement of this issue, not only the ties between Pakistan and India would improve, but also the two arch rivals would make economic progress and achieve political stability.

This was stated by the provincial Amir of Jamat-i-Islami, Professor Ibrahim , in an interview with Dawn about India’s war hysteria and forthcoming election, here on Monday.

Professor Ibrahim said that if the military regime displayed weakness and failed to give up the repeated offer of talks to the bellicose India, New Delhi might be encouraged to attack on Pakistan.

He urged the rulers to give up begging for peace because India had rejected all offers of talks, and warned Pakistan to remain ready for a decisive fight.

The Indian rulers, he said, had alleged that Pakistan was involved in the cross-border terrorism, but it was India who had occupied Kashmir by force and refused to give right to self-determination to the Kashmiris.

“ To extend help to the Kashmiris is not the cross-border terrorism. We should militarily back the freedom fighters. In 1971 it was India which had converted East Pakistan into Bangladesh and defeated Pakistan. Now the Indian rulers are saying that they will teach another lesson to Pakistan. This time the military regime should adopt an aggressive posture, in stead of begging for talks repeatedly”, he said.

He said Kashmir was the core issue for Pakistan and even the Quaid-i- Azam had declared that economically, strategically and politically the valley was vital for Pakistan.

But India violated the partition plan, occupied two-third Kashmir, then took the Kashmir issue to the United Nation, he said adding that now it opposing the implementation of the UN resolutions on Kashmir, claiming that Kashmir was its integral part and there would be no talks on this issue, he said.

He questioned that for how long they would suppress them? For how long India would dodge the world and peace loving people? For how long the UNO would remain silent spectator and for how long the crushing of the Kashmiris would go unnoticed? Finally, Kashmir would be liberated, he said.
