KARACHI: Privatization of two colleges soon

KARACHI, May 27: The process of denationalization of the St. Joseph’s and the St. Patrick’s colleges is expected to be completed soon, sources said on Monday.

They said that the process might be completed during the two-month summer vacations, commencing from June 1. “There is a possibility that on re-opening after the vacations on August 1, these two institutions may be back with their previous owners,” the sources added.

The St. Joseph’s College for Women and the St. Patrick’s College were previously owned by the missionary institutions.

They had applied for the return of these colleges and their documents pertaining to the ownership were said to be complete.

According to the sources, the authorities had received about 43 applications for the return of the nationalized schools and colleges in the city.

The Sindh Education Department has decided to return these institutions to their previous owners. However, the movement in this direction had been hampered by the establishment of the title - the ownership documents.

The educational institutions were nationalized in 1972 and many of those who had set up these institutions are no longer alive.

As such, the problem of establishing ownership of these institutions has arisen.

However, the Sindh Educa-tion Department will take a decision in this regard after processing the ownership documents, that have been filed.
