SWABI, May 23: District and Tehsil Nazims of Swabi on Thursday urged leaders of political parties and Ulema to shun their differences and create unity in their ranks to counter the Indian aggressive posture and Prime Minister Attel Behari Vajpayee’s threat of a “decisive fight.”

District Nazim Sher Zaman Sher told journalists that despite  Indian belligerence and increasing deployment of offensive forces along the Line of Control and the working boundary, Pakistan would continue to work to avoid war and an imminent holocaust.

The Indian aggressive posture had forced Pakistan to fully prepare for thwarting its hegemonistic designs, he said.

He said the world community should take notice of India’s aggressive policy and massive deployment which had thickened the war clouds over the volatile South Asian region.

He stressed that it was the responsibility of the United Nations, the United States and other powers to tell Indian leadership that war was not the solution of any dispute.

Swabi Tehsil Nazim Masood Jabar said that it was clear from the 54-year history of tense Pakistan-India relations and three wars between them that no battle had led to the solution of any issue but peaceful negotiations had resolved some of their problems. Bilateral parleys, he said, or third party mediation, especially by the US could resolve their disputes.

He demanded that the international community should make a distinction between freedom struggle and terrorism.

CONVOCATION: The convocation of Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute for Engineering Sciences and Technology will be held on May 29. The NWFP governor will be the chief guest.
