PSF plans glass-wall court at Islamabad

By Our Sports Reporter

ISLAMABAD, May 23: The Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) plans to put up the four-side glass-wall court, imported recently from Germany, in the premises of the Pakistan Sports Complex in Islamabad.

“We intend to have the court set up in Islamabad next to the existing squash complex, so that we have ample room for the players to train,” secretary of the PSF, Sqd. Ldr. Sajid Waheed told Dawn Thursday.

The PSF, Sajid said had already written to the Director General of the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) Brig. Saulat Abbas, requesting him for space.

“We are hoping that PSB would give us permission and once this is done, installation would start.”

The Rs 8m court, first used for the Pakistan Open in Lahore earlier this year, is currently lying in Islamabad and Sajid explained that once PSB okayed the project, it will be installed under a canopy.

“We have invited invoices from various companies in this regard as we want a really good design and quality material to be used.”

Sajid said that at a later stage seats would also be added, depending on the available budget so that the court could also be used for next year’s SAF Games.

Meanwhile, the PSF is close to getting an NoC from the Abbottabad Cantonment for extension of its squash complex there which currently has two courts.

“Once we get the all-clear, we will add one or two courts which will not only be good for squash in Hazara but also help us organise bigger camps in future,” Sajid said.
