Shopkeepers suffer for absence of bypass

By Our Correspondent

OKARA, May 23: Traffic jumbles and pollution due to absence of bypass on the four-kilometre portion of the GT Road have become a permanent nuisance to shopkeepers.

Dawn learnt on Thursday that shopkeepers had been facing a great deal of difficulty due to uncontrolled traffic and pollution.

It was learnt the current government had sometime back sanctioned a sum of Rs160 million for the construction of 8.8km long bypass on the GT Road. However, the plan met no headway.

The traders have urged the authorities concerned to get a bypass constructed on the highway on the Lahore-Multan Road to relieve the shopkeepers of worries.

AXED TO DEATH: A man was axed to death by his relative over a petty matter in Chak 27/4L on Thursday.

Reports said one Abbas Ali borrowed audio cassette from his relative Javed Iqbal. A couple of days later, Iqbal asked Ali to return his cassette. This led the two relatives to exchange harsh words.

On Thursday, Ali and his accomplice Shahmand came to Iqbal’s house and axed him to death.

Police have registered a case.

BOOKED: The Cantonment police on Thursday claimed to have booked some 41 agriculturists who had picked up wheat from the government land in 43/3R village without depositing the amount of lease.
