3 wounded in gas cylinder explosion

By Our Correspondent

HARIPUR, May 23: Three people were injured, one of them critically, when a gas cylinder exploded in village Pind Hasharm Khan some 13km from here on Wednesday evening.

According to police one Akhtar who had recently started the business of refilling the LPG gas cylinder in a house situated in a thickly populated area of the village, was busy in filing an empty cylinder when it burst into pieces injuring him and his two other clients namely Ajmal and Ibrahim.

The explosion was so powerful that the roof of the house collapsed causing panic among the villagers.

The injured were removed to DHQ Haripur, from where one Ibrahim was shifted to the Ayub Medical Complex Abbottabad in critical condition.

The refilling of empty gas cylinders in densely populated areas of the city by the gas sellers, had become a common feature exposing the lives of people to the risk of similar incidents.

The local circles have demanded immediate ban on open refilling of gas cylinders particularly in populated areas of the city besides use of these cylinders in Suzuki pick ups and other vehicles.
