DERA ISMAIL KHAN, May 23: PPP divisional president Hafeezullah Khan Alizai has said that the policies of the present government were not in the interests of the country.
Talking to journalists at his office here, he termed the holding of presidential referendum a violation of the constitution and all democratic norms.
He said there was no such provision in the constitution to hold a referendum for seeking a mandate for becoming president of the country.
Alizai said the government had failed badly in fulfilling its commitments made to the people.
He said that neither has the socio-economic condition of the people changed nor had the national economy improved.
He said that instead of providing basic amenities to the people, thousands of government and semi-government employees were sacked, which resulted in increased unemployment, poverty and crime. The law and order had also deteriorated, he said.
When asked about the government’s intention to keep the leaders of the two major political parties out of politics, he said that without them no political system could reflect true parliamentary system.
He said that the regional and smaller parties did not command popular support of the general public.
He said that the Afghan situation, economic problems, and the Indian threats demanded united efforts by all forces in the country.
Hafeezullah said that despite the political conflicts the whole nation is united.
