Intimation on water moot not received

By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, May 22: Pakistan has not yet received official indication with regard to the cancellation of Indus Water Commissioners’ annual meeting scheduled to be held in New Delhi on May 29, a Foreign Office source told Dawn here on Wednesday.

“So far, we have not received any indication about the cancellation of the meeting,” the source said. “Our experts are ready with a brief to visit New Delhi for the annual meeting,” he said. The meeting is to be held on May 29, and there can be many a slip between the cup and the lips, he added.

A Foreign Office spokesman at the weekly briefing on Monday had said India could not unilaterally revoke the treaty as it was an international treaty and guarantors were involved.

Commenting on the issue whether India can unilaterally withdraw or rescind the treaty which it considers as beneficial to Pakistan, the source said, “Legally it cannot be done.”
