PSF hopeful of wining medal
PESHAWAR, May 22: Secretary Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF), Squadron Leader Sajid Wahid, has expressed the hope that Pakistani squad stands bright chances of wining a medal in the forthcoming Commonwealth Games to be held in July this year.
Wahid said Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) was making all out efforts for the promotion of the game in the country and the federation as well as providing playing facilities to the junior and senior players along with training and coaching in order to restore the lost prestige.
For this purpose, he said, PSF, organised many international events in the country so that maximum number of youngsters could be able to participate and gain experience.
The PSF official claimed that by participating in maximum number of events, the upcoming youngsters would help improve their ranking and urged the local associations to come and play their role in grooming the budding youngsters.
He also invited the private sectors to come forward and sponsor the players and events so that the youngsters could be provided better and healthy platform.
He said, with the consultations of squash legends Jahangir Khan and Jansher Khan, PSF has hired the services of several coaches while Rehmat Khan has agreed to provide his services voluntarily for PSF.
He said almost five international tournaments would be held this year while team for the Commonwealth Games would be announced after the general body meeting in June 2002.
Wahid disclosed that the junior team would participate in the Junior World Squash Championship to be held in Chennai, India.
He said that work on new modern squash courts in various cities would be started soon for which paper work has been completed.—APP
