Drought-hit areas get Rs5m from WB, ADB

By Our Correspondent

LAKKI MARWAT, May 22: The World Bank and Asian Development Bank have released a grant of Rs5 million for the rehabilitation of the drought-affected areas of Lakki Marwat district, said Zila Nazim Humayun Saifullah Khan while speaking at a workshop here on Tuesday.

This grant is in addition to the Rs16 million allocated by the federal government for three major projects to minimize the drought impact in these areas.

It would be spent on providing the latest agricultural facilities to farmers through farm services centres for which the district government has chalked out a comprehensive plan.

Humayun Saifullah said the drought had become a challenge for the southern districts for which assistance on the part of the federal and provincial governments as well as world donor organizations was required.
