Tenant’s death: 13 mily farm officials arrested

OKARA, May 22: Deepalpur police registered a case on Wednesday against 24 farm officials, including three retired army officers, on the complaint of the brother of Muhammad Tufail Cheema and arrested 13 of them.

Those nominated in the FIR include Col Muhammad Iqbal (retired), Col Muhammad Nawaz (retired), Capt Nasir Mahmood (retired), farm officials Muhammad Asghar and Qaiser Abbas, clerks Nadeem Ahmad and Zakir Salim, superintendent Muhammad Sohail, supervisors Muhammad Latif and Muhammad Razzaq, deputy superintendent Siddique, driver Jamshaid, baildars Rab Nawaz, Sharif, Ashraf, tubewell operator Shoban, Nazir Ahmad, Abdul Latif, Rana Irfan, Muhammad Iqbal Madhol, Ghous Muhammad Bodla, watchman Mukhtar, Muhammad Mansha and Zulfiqar.

It was learnt that Col Iqbal and Col Nawaz were among the 13 who have been arrested by the police.

Meanwhile, the condition of seven of the 12 injured people was still critical.

Tufail Cheema was laid to rest in a local graveyard on Wednesday.

Tufail died on Monday evening while 12 tenants sustained injuries when the Proban Abad military farm officials opened fire on them on a dispute of crop sharing.

ACCIDENT: The conductor of a wagon died and 10 passengers sustained severe injuries in a collision between the wagon and a long vehicle on the Deepalpur-Hujra Road.

The Hujra Shah Muqeem-bound wagon collided with the trailer near Kot Shaukat Sultan in a bid to overtake it. Wagon conductor Zahid Ali of Okara died on the spot. The injured passengers were admitted to the Deepalpur THQ.
