Villagers slam Gepco ‘highhandedness’

SIALKOT, May 22: Hundreds of residents of Bajwat sector villages held a demonstration on Wednesday in front of the Sialkot district government offices against the highhandedness of Gepco.

The protesters said that owing to Indian shelling, electricity supply to 85 villages in Sialkot working boundary’s Bajwat sector has been suspended for the last four months. But Gepco has issued them power bills on inflated rates.

Representatives of protesters also met Sialkot District Nazim Mian Naeem Javaid and informed him about the situation.

The Nazim assured them that he would take up the matter with the authorities concerned at the earliest.

PADDY CROP SOWING: The sowing of paddy crop has begun in Sialkot and Narowal districts.

However, farmers of villages along the 220 kilometres Sialkot working boundary may not sow paddy this season because of intensified Indian shelling.

PROTEST DAY: Kashmiris living in Sialkot and Narowal districts observed strike on Wednesday to protest against the brutal murder of APHC leader Abdul Ghani Lone in occupied valley.

According to a press release, various meetings were organized in Sialkot City, Cantonment, Daska, Sambrial, Bhopalwala, Uggoki, Pasrur, Chowinda, Badiana, Shakargarh, Zafarwal, Baddomalhi and Narowal and speakers strongly condemned the brutal murder of Mr Lone.

Speaking at various meetings, the central chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Forum, Dr Zahid Ghani Dar, said this incident has exposed the state terrorism in occupied Kashmir.

Dr Dar urged the United Nations to pressurize India to stop large-scale human rights violation and state terrorism in the valley.
