Ashfaque captures Laser Cup
KARACHI, May 21: Petty Officer Ashfaque Iqbal of Pakistan Navy won the Laser Cup Sailing Championship which concluded at PN Aquatics Club Tuesday.
Ashfaque showed superb performance by winning all the five races to demonstrate his ascendancy in the championship.
Petty Officer Muhammad Anwar Qazi also of the Navy secured runner- up spot by maintaining second place in most of the races. Akhtar Ali of Army finished third.
Three races were held on the second day of the event. Ashfaque was once again in his perfect form and he won third, fourth and fifth races in a row with ease.
Though Corporal Tech Muhammad Yousaf of PAF sailed brilliantly however, disqualification for breaking the rules pushed him to fourth place. The competition became tougher as the races progressed.
Lasers flying in gusting winds were trying to overtake each other. Few capsizes were also seen. Positions emerged as under:- 1. Petty Officer Ashfaque Iqbal - 0 point 2. Petty Officer Muhammad Anwar - 32 points 3. Havaldar Akhtar Ali - 40.1 points.—APP
