PESHAWAR, May 21: Two persons accused of killing a young lawyer, Abid Nadeem, confessed their guilt before a local court on Tuesday, saying that they had killed him for the sake of money.
The accused, Riaz and Taj Muhammad, both residents of Miskeenabad and Nauthia respectfully, recorded separate but identical statements under section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code before the court of judicial magistrate Azam Khan.
After recording their statements they were sent to judicial lock-up.
On April 27, they said, they went to Abid Nadeem’s house and told him that they knew of someone who was selling jewellery very cheap. And if he was interested he should come with them. The lawyer seemed keen, he took Rs150,000 with him and accompanied the two men.
They said that when they reached Hassan Garhi their third accomplice Zamir Khan of Bara, Khyber Agency, also joined them.
The three men forced Nadeem to hand the money over to them. On resistance the three men shot the lawyer dead.
They accepted that each of them got Rs25,000 and the third person, who had absconded, took Rs100,000 and the lawyer’s motorcycle.
Earlier, there were reports that Abid Nadeem, the lawyer, went mysteriously missing from home.
The police one day, recovered an unidentified body in Hassan Garhi and buried it. On May 10 the police exhumed the same body which was identified as that of the missing lawyer.—Bureau
