KARACHI: Three Muttahida workers acquitted

KARACHI, May 21: The additional district and sessions judge, Syed Kauser Ali Bukhari, acquitted on Tuesday three workers of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement in a case pertaining to an attack on the Saudabad police station.

Shahzad alias Master, Israr Ahmed and Muhammed Khalid were prosecuted for several offences, including resorting to violent activities, attempt to murder, shootout with police and attack on the police station with grenades.

The judge, however, exonerated the three Muttahida workers from all charges as the prosecution could not establish its case.

ACQUITTED: The additional district and sessions judge, Ms Naseem Mansoor, acquitted three workers of the Mohajir Qaumi Movement in a case, pertaining to an attack on a police party.

Muhammed Jawaid, Qasim and Jawaid Iqbal were prosecuted for attacking the policemen in their bid to snatch the official weapons in 1992 in Mominabad.

The three activists were exonerated from the charges for want of incriminating evidence against them.

CONVICTED: The additional district and sessions judge, East, sentenced two robbers to a three-year term.

Nabi Hassan and Nadeem alias Ahmed, arrested for depriving Mohammed Faisal of Rs525,000 at gunpoint on Oct 4, 2000, in Korangi Industrial Area, were also fined Rs5,000 each.

The judge ordered that the defaulter on the payment would have to undergo an additional three-month term of simple imprisonment.

Meanwhile, the two robbers were sentenced to a one-year term for possessing unlicensed pistols by the court of a judicial magistrate.

BAIL GRANTED: The additional district and sessions judge, East, granted bail to a worker of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement in case, pertaining to shootout with police.

Tariq, booked in the case on Sept 8, 1998, was granted bail in the sum of Rs100,000.

BAIL REJECTED: The additional district and sessions judge, East, Syed Kauser Ali Bukhari, rejected the bail application of a worker of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, booked and arrested for beating an officer of the Intelligence Bureau.

The case against Sadaqat was registered on April 28, this year by the Korangi police on the complaint of the IB official, Shahnawaz.

Meanwhile, the additional district and sessions judge, West, Ms Naseem Mansoor, acquitted three men in a murder case.

Muzaffar, Zahid and Waqar, prosecuted for murdering Shaheen in 1996 in Orangi Town, were exonerated from the charges as the prosecution could not prove its case against them.

The district and sessions judge, Central, Riaz Shaikh, acquitted a worker of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement in a murder case for want of incriminating evidence against the accused person.

Shan alias Guddo was tried for killing Asim in 1994 within the limits of Liaquatabad police.

NBWS ISSUED: The additional district and sessions judge, East, issued the non-bailable warrant for the arrest of a prosecution witness in a case of bomb blast at the office of a newspaper.

The judge ordered the arrest of PW Sabir, who did not appear before the court despite several notices.

A worker of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, Uzair Qureshi, is being prosecuted for the blast, that killed a woman and an advertisement official of the newspaper.

The judge put off the hearing till June 1.

CASE AGAINST SSP MEN: The Anti-terrorism Court No. 2, headed by Judge Abdul Ghafoor Memon, adjourned the hearing of a double murder case against four workers of the Sipah-i-Sahaba Pakistan after recording the statements of two more prosecution witnesses.
