FAISALABAD, May 20: The Tehsil Municipal Administration has reportedly decided to impose annual tax on electricity poles.

According to TMA sources, special committees have been constituted to calculate poles and suggest the standard rate of tax.

An annual tax ranging from Rs100 to Rs200 according to category of the area will be imposed.

Sources further said union council Nazimeen and Naib Nazimeen had also been included in survey teams so that the task could be completed within the shortest possible time.

It may be noted here that a tug of war has been going on between the TMA and Wapda over the payment of bills for streetlights and other installations for the last so many years. Wapda authorities have disconnected power supply to streetlights and parks.

The TMA is of the view that it has already paid an extra amount to Wapda in the shape of various bills and the same should be adjusted in streetlights’ bills, but Wapda has been demanding an extra millions of rupees from it.

ARRESTED: Thikriwala police arrested a drug trafficker, Jamshed, and recovered 40kg opium from his possession here on Monday.

He has been sent to jail.

SHOT DEAD: One Afzal was shot dead allegedly by Tariq and two accomplices over an old enmity in Chak 105-GB, Jaranwala, on Monday.

Police have registered a case.
