RAWALPINDI, May 19: Two persons, including a policeman, were attacked and injured in separate incidents on Sunday, police said.

In the first incident, four constables — Wajid Hussain, Mursaleen, Sher Adil and Arshad — were patrolling Awan Colony, Pirwadhai, when they stopped an Afghan national for acting suspiciously.

When they tried to frisk him, the man, identified as Alam Gul, allegedly attacked them and stabbed Constable Wajid Hussain. The accused was, however, overpowered by other policemen, the police said.

The injured was shifted to the Holy Family Hospital in critical condition.

In the second incident, a security guard was shot and injured in a robbery attempt on Saidpur Road, the police said.

Malik Pervez Qurashi, owner of Unique Bakery, lodged a complaint with the New Town police, saying two youths entered the bakery and pulled out their pistols.

They shot the security guard, Haq Nawaz, when he tried to overpower them, the police said.

However, the hue and cry raised by the robbery victims caught attention of the passers-by, who managed to overpower one culprit, while his accomplice escaped from the scene.
