By Our Correspondent

MIANWALI, May 18: A bus driver was shot at and injured by two bandits while his helper, conductor and some passengers sustained minor injuries in the accident that ensued on the Talagang Road, a few kilometres from here on Friday night.

Reports said a bus (MNX-9655) left from Rawalpindi at 7pm and reached here at Nagni Morr at midnight when two bandits, who were travelling among the passengers, whipped out their weapons and held up the crew.

Driver Haji Muhammad Asghar, his helper and the conductor tried to overpower the bandits. One of the armed men opened fire on the crew, injuring the driver. Consequently, the bus overturned after hitting a tree.

The bandits managed to escape without doing harm to any passenger.

The driver, helper Arshad Chaudhry and conductor Rana Shahid were admitted to the Mianwali District Headquarters Hospital in critical condition.

Some of the passengers who sustained minor injuries were discharged from the hospital after providing them first-aid.

Later, the police showed a video film of those who boarded the bus prepared by Motorway authorities.

The bus conductor had reportedly recognized one of the bandits.
