Uplift funds lapse

DERA GHAZI KHAN, May 18: Most of the development funds in the district are likely to be lapsed owing to improper allocation by the authorities.

Dawn learnt on Saturday the district development committee approved various projects to be completed by the end of current fiscal.

However, work on at least three drinking water filtration plant has yet to be initiated.

Some 36 girls’ primary schools in various parts of the district are still without shelter. These schools have been working without order and discipline as the education department has paid little heed to it. These are without government buildings even after 31 years of their establishment.

The affairs at the local district council are not smooth. Delay in payment of salaries and pensions is not new. Some of the pensioners have got their dues through court while the rest have been waiting.

It is learnt that bills of various completed projects initiated before the introduction to district government are lying pending with District Coordination Officer Saqib Aleem. The contractors have time and again tried to get their bills but without result.

Since the DCO and district Nazim are drawing and dispensing authorities, people have been facing a great deal of difficulty.. —Correspondent
