KARACHI, May 17: Nawabshah’s Fida Hussain sprinted to victory in the boys 100 metres dash and was declared the fastest schoolboy at the 5th Sindh School Games held at the National Sports Training and Coaching Centre on Friday.
Naveed Afzal of Karachi Green finished second and Moazzam Ali from Karachi Whites picked up the bronze.
Earlier on Thursday evening, Fida won the silver medal in the 200 metres dash, finishing behind Jacobabad’s Sajjid Ali with Mohammad Hayat third.
But the schoolgirl who stole the limelight once again was Karachi Green’s Naseem Hameed who completed a magnificent sprint double by pocketing the gold in the 100 metres dash, clocking 13.66 seconds. Team-mate Shaeerina picked up the silver and Razia Sher Ali from Karachi Whites had to be content with the bronze medal.
This splendid victory enabled Naseem to pick up three gold medals in the meet to date. The previous afternoon the young lady won the 200 metres and long jump event.
Khairpur’s Ashiq Hussain dominated the 400 metres event, picking up the gold by sprinting home to victory ahead of Karachi Green’s Navid Afzal and M. Irfan.
In the track and field events, the girls and boys from the interior of Sindh offered a stiff challenge to the host teams Karachi Green and Karachi White.
Khairpur were in the fore once again in the shot putt event, bagging the gold medal. Yasin Mustafa from Larkana was second and Irfan Zab from Mirpurkhas was third.
Karachi Green bagged another gold medal in the High Jump, when Anil Akbar sailed over the bar to pick up the gold medal. Dando from Khairpur won the silver and Sajjid Ali from Hyderabad the bronze.
In the javelin throw, Khairpur’s Nazhat hurled the javelin to 73.09 feet to snatch the gold medal from Karachi Green’s Tayyaba Asif, who picked up silver and Nawabshah’s Sana Imtiaz the bronze.
In the high jump event, Sumara from Karachi Green finished on top from Larkhana’s Shaista Dabir and Karachi Green’s Kiran Allaudin.
FOOTBALL: Karachi Whites with two smashing goals from Farooq Shah, shut out Hyderabad 3-0, to make a triumphant entry into the final at the KMC Stadium on Friday. Javed Shah added the third goal for good measure.
In the other semifinal, Mirpurkhas trounced Larkhana also by a 3-0 margin.
Karachi Whites will now meet Mirpurkhas in the final on Saturday morning at the KMC Football Stadium.
KODI-KODI: The athletes from Ghotki cheered to the echo, when their team beat Khairpur 47-38, to pick up gold in the thrilling Kodi Kodi final.
Earlier in the semi-finals Ghotki edged out Shikarpur 19-16, while Khairpur defeated Nashehro Feroz 45-30.
All in all 17 districts in the province of Sindh are participating in these games. The closing ceremony of the four-day event will be held on Saturday afternoon.
After the third day, Karachi Greens were leading the other 16 districts in the Boys section. Close on their heels were Khairpur, followed by Nawabshah, Larkhana, Karachi White, Mirpurkhas, Jacobabad and Hyderabad.
In the Girls section, Karachi Green were miles ahead of Shikarpur, Larkhana, Karachi Whites, Nawabshah and Khairpur.
