GUJRANWALA, May 17: The Anti-Terrorism Court No 1, Gujranwala, on Friday handed down death sentence on three counts and fined Rs1.5 million to a convict and the banned SSP activist in a triple murder case.
Judge Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah completed the murder case hearing in the Central Jail.
He will have to undergo one-and-a-half-year hard jail, if he fails to make the payment of fine.
The court also awarded him 10 years imprisonment with a fine of Rs100,000 under Section 324 PPC. He will have to undergo six months more rigorous imprisonment, if he fails to pay the fine.
The judge acquitted two co-accused — Wallaitullah and Tahir Iqbal — by giving them the benefit of the doubt.
Another accused, Muhammad Rafiq, involved in the murder case had already been killed in an encounter with police some two years ago.
According to the prosecution, convict Abdul Rashid had killed judicial magistrate Syed Fida Hussain Shah, his daughter Sarwat Batool, gunman Syed Alamdar Hussain Shah and injured rickshaw driver Amjad Javed near the Commissioner Office on Oct 15, 1998.
