Emergency services law under study
By Our Staff Reporter
ISLAMABAD, May 16: The government is considering promulgating an Emergency Services Ordinance, 2002, for providing a response service to ensure safety of life and protection of property.
The proposed ordinance would integrate the Civil Defence, and Fire Brigades to have an effective service for prevention and management of all hazards with professionally trained rescue and fire personnel.
The objective of the proposed law is to deal with a situation created by fire, explosions of hazardous materials, and natural and man-made disasters, including war.
The law has been drafted after reviewing such regulations in the USA, UK, European Union, New Zealand and Bangladesh.
