ISLAMABAD, May 16: The Election Commission on Thursday announced that due to constraints of time it was not possible to conduct a door-to-door verification of the new category of voters, 18 years of age, as was done to prepare electoral rolls up to the age limit of 21.

Justice (retd) Irshad Hasan Khan, CEC, in a statement on Thursday, said voting age limit has been reduced from 21 to 18 years by the president through an amendment in the Conduct of General Elections (Amendment) Order 2002.

The CEC said that electoral rolls were of primary importance for the elections and appropriate measures to reduce the risk of omitting eligible voters was necessary.

The CEC stated that it had been decided to publish a list voters of 18, 19, and 20 years of age prepared from the National Data Forms for the local government elections.

These lists have been displayed at the offices of the revising authorities, registration officers, and assistant registration officers, and in every electoral area to invite claims, objections, and applications from eligible persons.
