CHITRAL, May 15: Around 3,603 Afghan DPs residing in Chitral will be repatriated to their country by the end of the week in response of the incentives offered by the UNHCR, whose representative visited Chitral recently.

The total number of registered Afghan DPs in the district is 20,968, while the number of households is 3,611.

According to sources, the repatriating Afghans would be provided transportation facilities and would be rehabilitated by the UNHCR in their respective areas.

However, no money is likely to be given by the UN body to the refugees in cash. It stresses on projects aimed at creating income generation for them, the source added.

Meanwhile, the local people have expressed satisfaction over the decision of repatriating refugees, who, according to them, have become a major source of social problems apart from rise in crime rate here.

The majority of the Afghan refugees living here belongs to the Badakhshan province of Afghanistan, reports our correspondent.
