MARDAN, May 14: A Patwari of Fatima village was arrested by the officials of the Anti-corruption Department and complaint cell of the district government on corruption charge here on Monday.

It is learnt that Shaukat Khan, a resident of Kas Karoona, complained to the Anti-corruption Department and the complaint cell of the district government that area Patwari Mohammad Shah had been demanding Rs2,000 for the transfer of five marla land.

The complainant was given marked currency notes to be offered to the Patwari as bribe.

When the complainant was about to give money to the Patwari, the DSP of Anti-corruption Department, Islam Khan, and Saddiq Bacha of Complaint cell raided the office of Mohammad Shah and recovered Rs2,000 marked notes from his possession and arrested him. Later, Mohammed Shah was sent to jail under section 161 PPC.

Mohammad Shah was quite notorious for corruption and earlier he had been arrested by the same officials in a number of bribery cases but due to his contacts in the government machinery, he managed to retain his post.

Residents of Hoti and Mardan Khas have demanded transfer of Mohammad Shah and warned that if he was appointed once again in the same area they would protest his appointment as Patwari.
