Beckham agrees new contract

MANCHESTER (England), May 11: England captain David Beckham has agreed a new contract that will keep him at Manchester United until the end of June 2005.

United confirmed that Beckham had agreed the new deal in a statement issued just before their final premier league game of the season against Charlton Athletic at Old Trafford on Saturday.

The deal, which media reports say will net the midfielder around 90,000 pounds ($131,600) per week, follows months of protracted negotiations.

“The club has bent over backwards to be fair in their dealings with me and I always knew that Manchester United were the only club I ever want to play for,” Beckham said in the statement.—Reuters
