KARACHI: JUI observes protest day

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, May 10: The Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam on Friday observed a protest day against what it called an uncalled for action of US commandos and the preparations for launching operations led by state forces against religious seminaries in the tribal areas.

The call to observe the protest day throughout the country was given by JUI chief Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman. A protest rally was to be held in front of Karachi Press Club, but due to the prevailing circumstances after Wednesday’s suicide car bomb explosion in the city, the party decided to stage demonstrations outside mosques.

The largest gathering was held in Shershah, which was addressed among others by Qari Muhammad Usman.

He warned that if US commandos made an attempt to intervene in the seminaries, the JUI would launch a country-wide movement.
