ISLAMABAD, May 9: The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) and Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) Rawalpindi on Thursday condemned the loss of life in terrorist attacks in different cities of the country.
The LHCBA Rawalpindi president, Chaudhry Ikram, and SCBA finance secretary Mirza Sadaqat Ali were speaking at a joint press conference held at the Supreme Court building.
They said terrorist attack on a church in Islamabad, murder of Dr Ghulam Murtaza Malik in Lahore and suicide bomb blast in Karachi were all part of a conspiracy against Pakistan.
They said the recent spate of terrorist attacks had been launched by the enemies of Pakistan who wanted to destabilize and tarnish the image of the country.
Chaudhry Ikram said India and Israel wanted to declare Pakistan a terrorist state. He said the government should revamp the domestic intelligence networks and equip national sensitive agencies to prevent terrorist activities.
Mirza Sadaqat Ali said such incidents had a negative effect on the economy.
RCCI CONDEMNS: The president of Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI), Sohail A. Sethi, Senior Vice- President Hussain A. Ozgen and Vice-President Rizwan Mohammad have condemned the suicide bombing in Karachi in which several French nationals were killed.
In a statement issued here on Thursday, they expressed their sympathies with the families of the victims and prayed for the early recovery of those injured in the blast.
Condemning the attack, they said: “The bombing would adversely affect Pakistan’s image in the world.”
They said this cowardly act was aimed at harming the country’s image at the international level and to block foreign investment.
The members also did not rule out the involvement of foreign hands in the attack.
WASTI: The central leader of Pakistan Muslim League (QA), Syed Kabir Ali Wasti, has asked political parties to cooperate with President Gen Pervez Musharraf in combating terrorism and maintaining law and order.
In a statement issued here on Thursday, he said crackdown on terrorists was the need of the hour, and all political parties should set aside their differences and cooperate with the government.
Mr Wasti said the act of terrorism in Karachi was a deep- rooted conspiracy hatched by anti-Pakistan elements.
He said terrorism in Karachi would affect the flow of foreign investment.
He asked the president to immediately take into confidence all political parties and their leaders and evolve a national consensus to counter terrorism.
