RAWALPINDI, May 9: The local chapter of the Punjab Teachers Union has supported the Muttahida Mahaz-i-Asatiza’s call for boycotting classes from Friday, and decided that no teacher in the Rawalpindi district would take any class till May 21.
These decisions were taken at a meeting held here on Thursday which was attended by 50 union representatives from different areas. They discussed the teachers problems and the protest movement.
The meeting criticized discrimination against teachers and said instead of solving their problems the government was taking away whatever facilities they enjoyed.
The Rawalpindi district union president, Imtiaz Abbasi, told the meeting that there was a need to struggle against this trend.
He said a peaceful protest campaign had been going on for the last several months to draw the government’s attention to the teachers’ problems, but the latter did not show any positive response.
The meeting asked the government to solve the problems of the teachers instead of forcing them to take to the streets.
