SAHIWAL, May 8: Punjab Governor Lt-Gen Khalid Maqbool (retired) has sought a report from local DPO regarding police torture on two women in the district courts on Monday.

Dawn learnt on Wednesday that proclaimed offender Maqbool’s wife Shahnaz and sister Naziran were waiting outside Judicial Magistrate Ejaur Rahman Baig’s court in pursuance of their pleading regarding the escapade of three POs.

Meanwhile, Harappa police ASI Allah Yar abused the women and, on their retaliation, manhandled them. The women sustained grievous injuries and were admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital on the orders of the court.

Shahnaz filed a case with the court on April 23, stating the Dera Rahim Police produced her husband Maqbool and two other POs Raza Qasim and Muhammad Rafiq in the court on April 22 on a four-day remand.

She stated the police, in the meanwhile, tortured the POs and amputated their arms and legs.

The Dera Rahim police took the POs into custody from Kasur police for investigation. Later, the Harappa police, headed by ASI Haq Nawaz, was taking the POs to the police station by a wagon when they were got released by their accomplices by blocking the road on April 25.

Shahnaz said the police failed to produce the three POs before the judge on the fixed date, apprehending her husband and other two POs might have been killed by the police.

The police tortured her and Maqbool’s sister Naziran, she added in the application.

ARREST WARRANTS: Additional District and Sessions Judge Malik Asif Majid Awan has issued arrest warrants of an ASI of Fateh Sher police station on Wednesday.

The ASI has been directed to appear in the court on May 13.

Reports said the court had granted one Zubaida a pre-arrest bail in a kidnap case. The ASI arrested her and sent her to the central jail.
