West Indies recall Hinds

ANTIGUA, May 7: West Indies have replaced opener Stuart Williams with left-hander Wavell Hinds for the fourth cricket Test against India starting in Antigua Friday.

The veteran of 20 Tests is the only new face in the side that beat India by 10 wickets at the Kensington Oval to level the five-match series 1-1 Sunday, West Indies Cricket Board announced.

The opening batsmen have been one of West Indies’s main areas of concern in the first three Tests, with Williams failing to perform.

Hinds slammed 175 against India in a three-day tour match in St. Lucia last week, and has 1,062 Test runs at an average of 29.50.

India won the second Test in Port of Spain by 37 runs last month after the first match in Georgetown had ended in a draw.

Squad: Carl Hooper (captain), Brian Lara, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Pedro Collins, Cameron Cuffy, Mervyn Dillon, Chris Gayle, Ryan Hinds, Wavell Hinds, Ridley Jacobs, Dinanath Ramnarine, Adam Sanford, Ramnaresh Sarwan.—PPI
