Hendry levels final with Ebdon
SHEFFIELD (England), May 6: Stephen Hendry fought back to draw level at 12-12 with Peter Ebdon in the snooker world championship final on Monday, having trailed 11-6.
The match resumed with Ebdon leading 10-6 and he won the opening frame of the session with a 68 break to establish a five-frame advantage.
But Hendry, winner of a record seven world titles, won the next four frames to cut the deficit to just a single frame.
He compiled back-to-back century breaks along the way, taking his tally of tons for the tournament to a record-breaking 16.
Ebdon won a scrappy 22nd frame, but Hendry finished the session strongly, scoring 207 points without reply to claim the last two frames.
The winner of the best-of-35-frames final receives a cheque for £260,000. Ebdon has never won the title.—Reuters
