ISLAMABAD, May 3: President General Pervez Musharraf on Friday reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to the process of reconstruction and assistance for a stable and prosperous Afghanistan.

The president was speaking to a 4-member delegation of the Afghan interim government led by their communication minister Engineer Abdul Rahim that called on him here.

The president said he was very glad that the reestablishment of communication and telecommunication linkages between Pakistan and Afghanistan was taking place at a fast pace.

He underlined the need for the government and private sector to fully participate in the development of Afghanistan.

He said that road, air as well as telecommunication links between the two countries were essential.

Engineer Abdul Rahim thanked the president for all the support being extended to Afghanistan by Pakistan.

He said that the people and government of Afghanistan recognize, appreciate and trust the wise leadership of Pakistan and the measures being taken to further enhance confidence, cooperation and good relations between the people of the two countries.

The Afghan minister said that telecommunication linkages between Afghanistan and Pakistan would benefit the displaced Afghans living in Pakistan.—APP
