MIRPURKHAS, May 3: Cotton and chili sowing are being adversely affected due to the persisting acute shortage of water in the district.
District Mirpurkhas is situated in the tail of Nara command area and is most suitable area for cotton, wheat, chili, and onion crops. Continuous water shortage in Jamrao, Mithrao and Thar canals for last several years has greatly affected agriculture sector of the district. The growers have complained that they are not getting proper water for early sowing of the crops.
FIVE BOOKED: Five landlords were booked by Jhuddo police for water theft on Friday.
Darogha, Jamrao sub-division, Kot Ghulam Mohammad, Mohammad Iqbal Almani, had lodged an FIR with Jhuddo police and accused that landlords Ghulam Mustafa Laghari, Ma look Junejo, Lal Mohammad Khushik, Shah Mohammad Khushik and Majnoo Khushik were involved in water theft by tampering with watercourse No.1-R of the Jamrao canal.
WORKSHOP: A one-day workshop on rights of labour was organized by the Sindh Rural Partners Organization here on Friday. Speaking at the seminar, Shahina Ramzan said that training programme for the elected representatives had been started so that they could know about their rights.
