KARACHI: Irrigation dept irregularities discussed

KARACHI, May 3: Sindh Governor, Mohammedmian Soomro, has taken strict notice of the slackness of certain officials of the Sindh Irrigation and Drainage Authority, who instead of implementing government decisions, are creating procedural complications.

The governor was presiding over a high-level meeting held at the Governor House in which, besides matters relating to irrigation, the supply of water to farmers in the command area of Nara Canal specially came under discussion.

The meeting was attended, among others, by Chief Secretary, Javed Ashraf Hussain; Principal Secretary, Brig Akhtar Zamin; Secretary Irrigation, Mir Mohammed Parihyar; DCO Khairpur, Mushtaq Memon and Nazim Taluka Council Nara.

Taking notice in the disruption of water supply from Nara because of loadshedding in the area, the governor directed the concerned authorities to chalk out better planning in this respect.

The meeting was informed that Nara Canal with a discharge capacity of 13,600 cusecs, which emerges from Sukkur Barrage, has a command area of 2.4 million acres.—APP/PPI
