KARACHI: Several Muttahida activists arrested: Houses, offices raided


KARACHI, May 3: The police on Friday night raided homes of several leaders and workers of Muttahida Quami Movement and arrested scores of them.

The LEAs raided the house of Dr Farooq Sattar in PIB Colony, and arrested his coordinator, Zubair.

They also raided the home of Shoaib Akhter and when they did not find him, they took away with them his brother, Amin Akhter.

The police also raided the Muttahida sector offices in Rizvia and took away with them the record of the party. The police picked up sector chief Mehboob Alam and workers, Nadeem Ansari, Shahid Noor, Arshad and Safdar. A TT pistol was shown as recovery from each of them. All those arrested were on bail in different cases.

The police stormed into the house of sector chief of Gulshan-i-Iqbal Arshad Sabzwari and returned disappointed as he was not in his home. House of one Anjum in the same vicinity was raided but he too was not at home. Cases have been registered against both of them for breach of peace on the day of strike.

The Supermarket police arrested Tanveer alias Chand, while Liaquatabad Police arrested Waseem Mirza. Moreover, the Shah Faisal Police rounded up Shakir, Riziullah and Sadiq.

Dozens of Muttahida activists were picked up in night-long raids in different parts of the city. A police mobile in Al-Falah area was fired upon late last night in which a cop, Basheer suffered a bullet wound.

According to police, various police teams of Investigation Branch, on Friday arrested 25 persons from the city on charges of violence and causing damage to properties.

Those arrested included Shakil, Mohammed Hashim, Abdul Shakoor, Mohammed Umer, Latif, Mohammed Yusuf, Nadeem Faisal from Sharifabad, Mohammed Umer Khan, Tayyab Yazdani, Naim Ahmed, Sohail Ahmed, Shahid Hussain, Waseem, Asif Yazdani, Asif Hussain, Mohammed Kamran, Mohammed Umer, Ghulam Farid, Sultan, Umer Khan from New Karachi, Iftekhar, Ibrahim, S. Rehman Rizvi, Saqib Ibrahim and Qadir Bux from Aziz Bhatti Police Stations jurisdiction. Four loaded pistols were also recovered from the suspects.

Cases against the accused were registered at respective police stations and investigation handed over to investigation branch.

Meanwhile, the police arrested six suspects in a school where they were allegedly planning to create disturbance in the city and recovered six pistols and several live bullets from their possession, the police sources said.

The New Karachi police raided a school on Maulana Mohammad Ali Johar Road where some armed persons had gathered with some ulterior motive. They nabbed Muttahida sector in charge, Tayyab, along with his accomplices Mushahid, Irfan, Saleem, Sohail, and Umer and recovered six TT pistols and many live rounds from them.—PPI/APP
