Zia-Hamid poised for award

KARACHI, April 30: Ziaullah Baig and Hamid Mohiuddin are strong contenders for the Pair of the Month award being presented by Karachi Bridge Association (KBA), says a press release issued Monday.

Their performance throughout the month had been remarkable. They won three out of four Swiss Movements and three pair contests last week.

The pair had been instrumental to bring another honour on Sunday evening when 17 teams contested Swiss Movement .

After a thrilling start against Akber 22-8, Candyland won all other four matches from Moonlight 18-12, Mahmood 18-12, Abedies 29-10 and the leaders of the evening Amin 22-8.

They accumulated 100 Victory Points (VPs) for the prime top spot. The team comprised Hasan Askari and Khalid Mohiuddin their regular pair.

They outpaced Khoja 22-8, Shipyard 24-6, Friends 24-6, and Sprinters 20-10 Sarfraz Khan, Imran Jaka, Amin Hakim, Masud Mazhar and Zaeem Lutfi. Amin scored 98 Victory Points for the second berth.

Friends with Javed Rehman, Asghar Abbas, Nasir Ahmed, Nadeem Aziz and Anwer Kamal occupied third berth with a score of 97 VPs which they collected winning four matches.

Starting their journey with 25-5 victory against Jamal, they defeated Sprinters 18-12, Mahmood and Printers 24-6 losing the only match to Amin.

In the pair contest, Zia and Hamid topped from the Senior Section with a score of 59.52 percent followed by A Khaliq-Nasir Reza 58.46% and Ghufran Ashraf-Saleem 57.52 %

In the other house, Rashid Lodhi- A.M. Memon topped with a handsome score of 63.33 %. Khalil Ansari-S.M. Ilyas scored 56.19% second position and Wazir Durrani-Shahab scored 54.62 % for the third berth.—APP
