PPP men arrested

LAHORE, April 29: The Lahore police in a late night operation on Monday arrested over a dozen workers of People’s Party, including Dr Ziaullah Bangash, a former MNA.

Other arrested PPP men included a UC Nazim, Muhammad Asghar, Naib Nazim Javed Ahmad and a local leader identified as Faisal Butt. A police official said that they had intelligence that the arrested PPP workers had plans to create law and order situation on Tuesday - the referendum day.

He said they were only arresting “irritants” about whom they had information that they might take the law into their hands on the referendum day. However, SSP Aftab Cheema told Dawn that they had neither made any arrests nor did they have any instructions to act against workers of any political party.
