GREENSBORO, North Carolina, April 29: The claw putting grip has been good to Mark Calcavecchia over the last two-and-a-half seasons and Sunday it helped him to tie the PGA Tour record for least number of putts during a 72-hole event.
Calcavecchia, 41, had to settle for second place three strokes behind winner Rocco Mediate in the Greater Greensboro Classic but his putting tally tied Kenny Knox’s mark of 93 set at the Heritage Classic at Harbour Town Golf Links in 1989.
“I was aware I didn’t have many putts,” the 1989 British Open champion said after a closing 72 left him at 13-under-par 275 after four rounds.—Reuters
