1,399 polling stations set up
LARKANA, April 29: As many as 1,399 polling stations had been established in Larkana district, the official in charge of the local referendum cell, Mushtaq Ahmed Ansari, told newsmen here on Monday.
Some polling stations had been established at bus stands, railway stations and Larkana Central Prison to provide maximum opportunity to the people to use their right of franchise, he said.
Mr Ansari said that the polling stations would have 2,798 polling booths which would be manned by 6,995 government employees drawn from education, health, agriculture and other departments.
He said that 422 vehicles had been hired to transport the polling material and staff to the polling stations and Assistant Returning Officer (ARO), Larkana, had appointed eight judicial officers to assist him in the process of holding referendum.
A control room had been set up in the district operation room, Ansari said and added that the referendum results would be sent to the election commission by the ARO.
A large number of government employees assigned to referendum duties was seen collecting the election material in the collectorate building where vehicles were parked to transport the material.
Adds our Sanghar Correspondent: Arrangements have been finalized here for the presidential referendum.
The polling staff, ballot papers and other polling material have been sent to the polling stations.
On the other hand, Sanghar District Nazim, PML-F and PPP backed Nazims of talukas and union councils, and disciples of Pir Pagaro have been striving to ensure a big turnout of voters.
Police have impounded 90 per cent public vehicles for referendum duty.
