LAHORE, April 28: Leading jockey Shahid Rehman gave a dazzling display of horsemanship, by riding home four winners, including a hat trick, during the concluding Lahore Winter Meeting at the Racecourse on Sunday.

He started the day with an excellent triumph on dark bay colt Blue Dawn in the first race. Shahid then followed it up with an easy victory on odds-on favourite bay filly Mahnoor in the second race, then completed his hat-trick piloting bay filly Hataf Sara to a narrow win in the third race.

Shahid ended the day in a blaze of glory, winning the sixth and last race on bay gelding Think Thank, defeating bay filly Gambling Girl by two-and-a-half lengths. Thus he accomplished the rare feat romping home four winners which is seldom achieved by a rider.

This was the success story of Shahid Rehman. On the other hand he was twice unlucky to be beaten to second place in the fourth and fifth race. In the fourth race the rank outsider Star Gate beat The Conqueror (Shahid Rehman up) by a neck on the finishing post. In the fifth race Shahid Rehman ‘s mount Love Moon was beaten By Better Case by three-quarters of a length. Had he not been defeated on these two mounts he would have swept the entire card of six events. Any how for the punters he was the most sought after rider on Sunday, who backed his every horse and reaped a rich harvest.

Haji Ghulam Sarwar, a champion trainer of yester years and Raja Tehmasab Khan, excelled among the trainers by saddling a brace of winners each. Haji Ghulam Sarwar sent in Mahnoor and Hataf Sara in the second and third race, respectively. Raja Tehmasab Khan saddled Better Case and Think Thank in the fifth and sixth race, respectively.

Five well-backed contestants won in a card of six events. The bay gelding Star Gate was the only neglected animal to win in the afternoon.
