HARIPUR, April 28: Tehsil council Haripur has approved development schemes amounting to Rs150.6 million for all the 37 union councils here on Saturday.

The council’s session was presided over by Tehsil Naib Nazim Amin Khan advocate.

These schemes included laying of water supply lines, carpeting of roads, pavement, and other miscellaneous projects.

In line with the government directives, every Naib Nazim of the Tehsil council was given development schemes worth Rs300,000, and the remaining 16 members who made it to the house on reserved seats received funds amounting to Rs200,000 each.

Earlier, when the proceedings started, the members were issued a list of all the development projects and the chair sought approval of these schemes from them.

At this juncture a number of the members objected on the mode of approval and asked the chair for issuing the same seven days earlier to the session. Sheikh Abid advocate, Raja Ehtesham, Mahjabin Begum termed the whole process repugnant to the LG Ordinance 2000.

However, the house unanimously approved all these schemes for which the TMA had reportedly issued work orders to the contractors.

The house witnessed a pandemonium when several members objected to the approval which the chair sought for the purchase of office furniture for which the TMA has allocated a sum of Rs0.240 million without giving details.

On this Raja Ehtesham requested the chair to provide details to the house so that the approval, if need, be granted. The mover was supported by a number of members which led to deferment of the matter until next session.

The speaker had also to defer the levy of another 26 taxes on different items when the house unanimously voted against the move.

The house also gave approval of changes in some of the levies which were imposed on 14 different services in the last session.
