KARACHI: Role of Ulema must to fight terrorism, says Soomro
KARACHI, April 24: Sindh Governor, Mohammedmian Soomro, has said that the present government is making sustained and organized efforts for national cohesion and greater harmony among different sects and schools of thought.
In this regard, he said that the cooperation of Ulema, social leaders and the community serves as a source of strength.
He was talking to a delegation of Ulema and social leaders led by Syed Hasan Jaffer Bilgrami, General Secretary, Youm-i-Mustafa Committee, that called on him at the Governor House.
The delegation comprised Maulana Irshadul Huq Thanvi, Allama Aun Mohammed Naqvi, Hafiz Mohammed Ayaz Rehmani, Maulana Aal-i- Ahmed Bilgrami, Allama Furqan Haider Abidi, Rasheed Raza Turabi, Fayyaz Aslam Naqvi and others.
Mr Soomro told the delegation that all resources are being employed for the elimination of terrorism and to control sectarianism. However, he said, the role of the community and specially the Ulema is of great importance.
He asked the administrators of places of worship to keep a strict watch out for any unfamiliar faces, take necessary security measures and create greater awareness among people against terrorism.
The governor also apprised the delegation about measures being taken for the arrest of accused involved in sectarian terrorism.
He also informed them about ongoing development schemes, reforms in health, education and social welfare sectors and the steps taken for revival of economy.
The governor thanked the Ulema and social leaders for announcement of their support for President Pervez Musharraf in the April 30 referendum.
Earlier, Syed Hasan Jaffer Bilgrami and other leaders stressed that change in the obsolete colonial and polluted system was the need of the hour, and that there is need for a transparent system where no one could loot national resources or use the government authority for personal benefits and advantages.
They said that people would fully endorse President Musharraf for the next five years in the referendum.
The delegation members exhorted the people of Karachi to fully participate in the President’s April 28 public meeting.—APP
