No classrooms for 1,400 girl students

SIALKOT, April 23: There is no classroom for about 1,400 students of the Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Sialkot Cantt.

Established about 52 years ago, the school has been catering to the educational needs of the adjoining villages of Sialkot Cantonment. At present, more than 2,500 girls are on the roll of the school.

There is acute shortage of the science teachers in the school. Nine posts of subject specialists have been lying vacant since long. Six subject specialists are teaching in the school against the 15 posts sanctioned by the education department for higher secondary education.

Official sources told Dawn on Tuesday that 52 post of senior teachers have been lying vacant in the district since long.

According to details, posts of principals in two government girls high schools, posts of headmasters in four boys high schools, headmistresses in 37 girls high schools besides posts of 6 male deputy headmasters and three female deputy headmistresses are lying vacant.

Sources said that 766 posts of teachers, junior clerks, employees of class IV have also lying vacant in Sialkot district since long.

Nineteen boys and girls high schools have no toilet facility, while 14 girls and boys high schools are without boundary walls.

When contacted, the Sialkot district education officer said that proposals had been sent to the high-ups of the department in this regard.
