SAN FRANCISCO, CA, April 23: An American couple of Pakistani origin, Mirza Ali and Sameena Ali, is among more than two dozen Silicon Valley residents arrested on suspicion of pirating $75 million in Microsoft software.
Most of the individuals, held in an FBI-led sweep, are of Taiwan descent.
They used wire transfers, foreign bank accounts and rented mailboxes to move money from the scheme, authorities said.
Mirza Ali and Sameena Ali were among the first who appeared in court for indictment.
They were indicted on 37 counts, including mail fraud, interstate transportation of goods taken by fraud and money laundering. The charges carry between five and 20 years in prison.
